I’ve got the power…!

I’m feeling strangely nervous.

We received a flyer in the post from Energex advising that our power will be off tomorrow for maintenance.

For seven hours…

So today I’m desperately thinking of all the things I can do to minimise this inconvenience.

I’ve put a wash on and the dishwasher, so that’s all good.

I’m writing my blog today, which normally I do on Wednesdays.

It really shouldn’t be a drama.

So why am I feeling so nervous?

Okay one good reason is of course we’re still in summer, although this week has been a tad cooler.

But still – writing this – I’m sitting under a ceiling fan.

Ask my husband ‘where’s Ann?’

His reply will be something along the lines of ‘find the fan!’

I’m usually sitting under one – whether I’m in the office, the lounge, our bedroom or on the patio.

I’m not a huge fan of air-conditioning unless it’s unbearably hot, and hopefully that won’t be the case tomorrow.

But the thought of no power.

I know I’ll want to do something on the computer, but I can’t.

A news story will break and I’ll want to watch an update, but I can’t.

That sense of being able to do what we want, when we want and suddenly I won’t have that.

We are so dependent on being connected all of the time.

So let’s find the positives in this!

What can I do?

I can read, clean (hmmm), tidy up.

Go for a walk and have a swim.

I can practice mindfulness.

Meditate.

Get organised for an upcoming trip, and write a to do list.

Even my obsession with being under a fan has a solution.

Michael bought me a desk fan which I keep mainly in the kitchen.

I sit in front of it to chop the veggies.

Then move it to the side of the cooktop when I start to cook.

If I charge it up tonight – that should last me the day!

I should also be relishing the fact I don’t have access to the computer etc.

Relishing the fact I can disconnect from technology for the day.

But let’s not get too ridiculous.

I’ll also have my phone.

So essentially I can still call people, check emails, use Whatsapp & Messenger, look at Facebook and play a Sudoku!

What on earth am I worried about?

The electricity might not even be off for the full seven hours…

I’ve got the power (in me) to do this.

Ann 🙏
