Go gentle as a lamb…

It’s that time of year again… when the new Australian lamb advert hits our screens.

I have to say, as a (mainly) vegetarian, that’s not something I thought I’d ever write about!

The ads are usually quite amusing, but this year’s I think is especially clever.

Although I also find it quite sad.

If you haven’t seen it, it mimicks the way people behave online – particlarly with their comments.

Hiding behind the safety of their computers/devices people can be incredibly nasty.

Early on the ad makes the point it was made with real, online comments taken from various social media platforms.

I have no idea if that’s actually true – but when you watch it and listen to the comments – I can 100% believe it is…

I’ve probably mentioned it before, but I have a very bad habit of reading comments.

Mainly because I can’t believe the things some people say.

It astounds me.

It scares me.

The ad completely nails this.

“I guess the anonymousness of the internet promotes disagreements…”

Doesn’t it just?

Not to mention the misinformation and untruths.

If you think about it, a lamb is generally associated with a sense of being gentle, a creature of innocence.

So the ad is also quite ironic.

Come on everyone, get out of the comments and into the cutlets.

That line made me laugh out loud.

Once everyone is eating lamb, they’re suddenly nice to each other.

As the ad says: “I think everyone’s a lot nicer in real life than we are online.”

Now although I won’t be getting into any cutlets anytime soon, it’s a reminder to me to stop reading comments.

The negativity is not good for me, and I need to be more mindful about what I read.

Get out more, talk to real people.

Go gentle as a lamb.

We can be really, really nice to each other.

Ann 🙏
