Weathering the weather…

Another wet, miserable and grey day… with more rain forecast for this week.

It’s been going on for a few days now.

When I was waiting to go in for surgery last week, the anaesthetist and I watched the lightning show as yet another storm rolled through.

It was all very dramatic and quite the perfect timing in the circumstances.

Normally when there’s ongoing rain though, I get a bit fed up, desperate to see the sun again.

But I have to admit, rather selfishly, this week the weather is just perfect for me.

Following my surgery I have to keep the wound dry, so there’s absolutely no chance of getting in the pool.

But when the weather is wet and gloomy, I have no desire to get in the pool anyway, so it’s a win, win situation!

I keep feeling guilty for feeling like this, then I have to remind myself, of all things, there’s nothing you can do about the weather.

On our wedding day 25 years ago, the forecast was for showers.

I had to walk from the hotel where we were staying, to the venue – a boat on the river.

It wasn’t that long a walk, but long enough if the heavens opened.

You can wish, hope and pray – but at the end of the day, the weather does what it does.

I made it to the venue dry – and then the rain came down.

Phew.

As we were saying our vows the water started to run down the deck of the boat.

My bridesmaids ran forward, lifting my dress and train (a little higher than I would have liked!) to ensure they didn’t get wet.

Then as the boat rocked slightly we all burst into childish laughter as the celebrant said: “you might find it wise to stand with your legs slightly parted.”

It was a beautiful day.

Rain or shine.

So please forgive me for enjoying the rain for once.

I can’t wait to get back in the pool and do some exercises – when my foot allows – and when the sun comes back out.

Until then I’m enjoying resting, reading and mindfully meditating.

Ann 🙏
