Happy International Women’s Day!

I’ve been very lucky to have had some very strong, supportive women in my life.

But sadly, like many of us, I have also experienced bullying and a total lack of support in the workplace.

In my last job I was on the same grade from 2008 until 2021 when I left.

Despite constantly raising and pushing for promotion.

Despite receiveing awards and exceptional feedback and survey results.

Yet in that time I saw many (mainly men) come in and rapidly gain promotion (supported in the main, by other men).

My story is not unique but it is frustrating.

In this day and age, and in the developed world we’re making very slow progress.

Imagine what it must be like for women in less ‘advanced’ countries, or where women are regarded as second class citizens, if at all.

So today, let’s celebrate women.

Your mothers, your sisters, your partners, your daughters, your friends, your neighbours, your colleagues.

Pick one, or pick them all, and hold them in your thoughts with gratitude.

While you’re at it, if you identify as a woman, give yourself some time today to acknowledge what you have achieved – no matter how big or small.

Treat yourself compassionately, take a few deep breaths and allow yourself to be the woman you are.
